Why Is Mediatek Better Than Snapdragon

When it comes to the world of chipsets, Mediatek has come a long way. The company comes out of the trenches while dealing with Snapdragon to become the world’s best smartphone chipmaker. In 2021, a lot has happened that deteriorated Snapdragon’s throne.

It benefits from a supply deficit of RFICs (radio-frequency integrated circuits) from Samsung’s Texas factory, which was destroyed by severe winter storms in the first half of this year, coming in second at 31%.

Another problem is the lower production of 5nm wafers, which Qualcomm does not employ, which is another drawback.

This is the time when Mediatek buckled up and took full use of the resources to take the game to the next level. Do you think the users in India will pay for a standard HD+ display for 20,000 when they can get the even better panel at the same price via Mediatek’s processors? We all know the answer. Mediatek has taken down the cost to an extreme low, which benefits the smartphone makers as well as the users.

The market has evolved too. With a lot of Youtube videos, encouraging blogs, the reality of costly Snapdragon chipsets came to full disclosure. Now, we all know that Snapdragon charges substantially extra.

Today, smartphones have become cheaper, even people with a tight budget can get better smartphones at a reasonable price. Mediatek has made it happen. Let me give you an example:

Look at how infinix mobiles have shunned this year. Most of the smartphones are in the lower/ mid-range with Mediatek chipsets. When we look at the specifications that infinix integrate, it feels surreal. You get the same number of specifications with a Snapdragon chipset at a higher price.

The second most advanced thing that Mediatek has managed to do so is to take the 5G technology into their own hands. The new Dimensity 9000 is the world’s first 4nm chipset. The chipset uses the new Armv9 architecture CPUs that includes one Arm Cortex-X2 at 3.05GHz frequency, three Arm Cortex-A710 with up to 2.85GHz frequency, and four Arm Cortex-A510 CPUs. The chipset also comes with LPDDR5x 7500Mbps support.

Let’s see what Qualcomm has in store, and perhaps it will provide some nice affordable chipsets with 5G support to compete with MediaTek. At the end of the day, I believe it is a win-win situation for us, the customers since we profit.
